Rika is one of SAKURA'S classmates and she is very caring towards her friends, often cheering Sakura up. Rika is very mature, acting older than she really is and is very elegant. Rika is a very skilled cook and enjoys baking cakes as well as cookies and she also enjoys sewing. Even though Rika is not good at swimming, Sakura helps her to swim. Rika prefers playing the piano than taking part in physical activities.

Rika is very likeable due to her kind and friendly nature. Even though she can appear to be shy, she is very kind and caring and she has a fiancé who is in fact her homeroom teacher, Terada Yoshiyuki. At the end of the manga, Rika is seen giving Sakura some advice about love as she can see that Sakura is troubled so she asks what is wrong. Sakura tells her about her feelings and Rika makes sure that she gives the best advice to Sakura.

Rika is most known for her relationship with teacher Yoshiyuki Terada. Rika and Terada's relationship reflects happiness and even though there is a huge age difference, it does not affect how they love each other. The relationship is established early on in the manga when Rika and Terada exchange blushing looks at each other. At the end of one of the chapters, Terada is seen giving Rika a ring and tells her that he hopes that one day it will turn out to be a wedding ring. In the anime, the relationship is still there although it is not as deep and there is no engagement. Rika still exchanges blushing looks at Terada though. Although in one of the episodes, Rika, gives Terada the teddy bear that she made and he names it after Rika.
